Dropkick Murphys go to bat for the Boston Red Sox.

The Dropkick Murphys will lend their talents to the Boston Red Sox in hopes of inspiring the team toward the pennant.

The Murphys, at the request of Red Sox Executive Vice President Dr. Charles Steinberg, recorded a version of "Tessie," an unofficial Red Sox fight song. The song, originally written for a musical, became the rallying cry for Boston supporters in the innaugural 1903 World Series, where Boston came from behind to clinch the championship. In hopes of lighting a fire under the asses of the perpetually underacheiving Sox, the Murphys, joined by center fielder Johnny Damon and pitchers Bronson Arroyo and Lenny Dinardo, recorded a punked-up version of the song.

"(Journalist) Jeff Horrigan sent me the song, but we didn't really like it. It was so old," said bassist Ken Casey in a statement. "But we liked the story behind it about baseball fans using it to annoy the other team, so we rewrote it ready to annoy a whole new generation of baseball fans."

The song will be sold as a single in July. All proceeds will be turned over to the Red Sox Foundation.

In addition, the band entered Fenway Park and recorded a video for the song
