Turbonegro Recording Sixth Album in Norway

Ironic Norwegian headbangers Turbonegro are getting ready to head into the studio to record their sixth LP, the follow-up to last year's Scandinavian Leather. The band reportedly turned down several American producers who wanted to work with them-- including Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, with whom Turbonegro toured the states briefly back in 2002-- preferring to produce the record themselves in their hometown of Oslo. Incidentally, the band also recently passed on several high-profile American tours, most notably this summer's aborted Lollapalooza festival. We'd say they made the right choice there.

Although a title for the record has not been decided upon, possible choices include Halfway to Hell, Babylon Burning or Pure Hatred. Those are all fine, we suppose, but they certainly don't have the same ring as Ass Cobra or Apocalypse Dudes. Then again, the three new song titles that have been mentioned-- namely "Chateaus and Plateaus", "City of Satan" and "Dirty Dirty", don't quite have the same ring as "Rendezvous with Anus", or "Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker", either. Are we dealing with a more serious, more mature Turbonegro? Speaking with Norway's Dagsavisen newspaper, bassist Happy Tom revealed, "Two of our members are becoming fathers this summer. This will probably manage to destroy our homo image, thus we should better keep it secret." So, shhhh...
