The new Error record gets another solid review!
Electro-punk-hardcore? Only the quartet of Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion), Atticus Ross (Nine-Inch Nails), Leopold Ross, and Gregg Puciato (Dillenger Escape Plan) could create the mess known as Error. Their latest self-titled EP brings the four together, experimenting with all sorts of riffs and beats to create a blunder of chaotic music. Error delivers five songs of original character and style, living up to all the hype that is being created. With Atticus Ross producing, who has produced such efforts as Rancid and Trent Reznor, Error gives new meaning to the word chance.
The EP opens with the track 'Nothings Working' which Epitaph, their label, has been promoting by making it available for download. The song starts off with a little intro of its own where you are isolated with noise and then a sound of a car crash. The crash then sets off the song as Gregg Puciato sings lyrics of frustration and ambitionless emotions. Not only do the lyrics show signs of frustration, the hardcore guitar riffs and fast paced drumbeats display the same. The next song, 'Homicide,' gives a more appealing side to Error. With no real lyrics, the relaxing mood of the song is made by the use of keyboards. Afterwards, it breaks into a depressing vibe with the song 'Burn in Hell'. Just like the title implies, the song is filled with dark lyrics and lower toned background music. The next song entitled 'Jack The Ripper', though born from confusion, serves its purpose on the EP. Filled with more lyrics than most other songs, it repeats the title throughout the song with an unsteady tempo. The ending note of the EP 'Brains Out' leaves off on a more obscene note, which sounds almost identical to Nine Inch Nails.
One of the only words that come to mind when describing this EP is original. Error's unprecedented sound is unique and done well. It's hard to believe that this is something that Brett Gurewitz would create, but he and the rest of the lineup make it reason enough to give it a try. If you are a fan of either Dillenger Escape Plan or Nine Inch Nail's, you should definitely give Error a try come February 28.
