Sage Francis to play 2005 Rock The Bells Festival!
Saturday July 30, 2005 will mark the return of SAGE FRANCIS to Rock The Bells Festival at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA. He'll share the stage with seminal hip-hop artists such as NAS, Guru, Redman and many others.
After putting on an incredible set at the 2004 Rock The Bells Festival, where SAGE "involved" the audience by firing a salvo of broccoli into the crowd, Chuck D of Public Enemy commented, "Sage Francis is just being himself."
SAGE seemed to take delight in taunting some of the more conservative hip-hop fans in attendance. This ultimately culminated with SAGE performing his politically charged song "Makeshift Patriot" in his underwear to "...reward the crowd for being so nice."
Controversy in nothing new to SAGE FRANCIS however; his latest release, A Healthy Distrust, has been hailed by fans and critics alike not only for its artistic merit, but its contentious stance on socio-political issues and the hip-hop scene at large.
Urb Magazine stated the following in a review of the album, "We're in the hands of master lyricist...a distinctive raw talent is emerging." Remix continued the accolades of A Healthy Distrust by expressing, "...a D.I.Y. approach to production... ...Hip-hop was made to speak out against hypocrisy, and, here, Francis lends a hand toward restoring its good name."
