poptropicaslutz! Step Into The Spotlight With New Single “it boy”=
Following 50 Million-plus catalog streams and earning the distinction of “the future of pop” by Rolling Stone UK, Los Angeles duo poptropicaslutz! – Nick Crawford and Christian Cicilia – step into the spotlight with new single “it boy” and its accompanying 360° music video. WATCH HERE
Lifted from their recently announced sophomore album ‘the new 925’ out March 28th, “it boy” finds the band poised for stardom. As the first song penned after moving from Long Island to Los Angeles, poptropicaslutz! were galvanized by their whirlwind journey and the life-changing experiences they’ve manifested in a short period of time. “Feeling like we’re it and we’re overdue to talk our shit,” the track is the ultimate expression of unbridled self-confidence felt throughout the upcoming record.
“Everyone wants to feel like “it”, but a lot of people are afraid to come across as braggadocious or obnoxious,” the band adds. “We think that’s stupid because if you don’t believe it, no one else will.”
Built around a hook that Nick had been holding onto for the right moment, “it boy” came to life when poptropicaslutz! teamed up with trusted collaborators kodeblooded and aldrch to bring their bold new vision to fruition. “We brought the sub phatty to the studio and when kode played that synth lead we all geeked because it felt so right; brooding and evil, yet triumphant. Then we tapped aldrch who helped us solidify the outro based on an extended cut he made for the first time we ever played it live.”
After releasing their debut record in 2023, a cross-country move propelled the band into an era of creative freedom and expression that led them to the conscious decision to “kill the old poptropicaslutz.” While previous projects – ‘just in case the world ends’ EP (2022)
and debut album ‘face for the radio/voice for a silent film’ (2023) - floated between guitar-filled angst and the contemporary hyper-pop boom, ‘the new 925’ centers the band at the forefront of Gen Z’s experimental, Hip-Hop infused, SoundCloud-sleaze scene.
With the ‘the new 925’ poptropicaslutz! has evolved into a fully formed band. Blending versatile elements of pop and rap with auto-tuned vocals and a polished production quality, their lyrics delve into the complexities of modern life, tackling themes that resonate with a new generation of creatives in their 20s. From self-discovery and personal growth to the pursuit of external validation, navigating party culture, and leaving the past behind, poptropicaslutz! embodies the dream life they've always envisioned; one that's authentic and unapologetically their own.
