Plague Vendor Share A New Song "I Only Speak In Friction"

Southern California-based post-punk band Plague Vendor have shared their new single, “I Only Speak in Friction.” Produced by Epitaph founder and Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz, “I Only Speak in Friction” is Plague Vendor’s first release since their acclaimed 2016 album ‘BLOODSWEAT’.

In the making of “I Only Speak in Friction,” Plague Vendor entered Sunset Sound Studio 2 with Gurewitz and engineer Morgan Stratton (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Death Grips, Future Islands), completing two songs in two days. Accompanied by artwork from L.A.-based illustrator Sterling Bartlett, “I Only Speak in Friction” delivers Plague Vendor’s signature fusion of potent melody, volatile energy, and raw vulnerability.

Plague Vendor will soon join producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Unknown Mortal Orchestra) to begin production on their as-yet-untitled third album. As drummer Luke Perine explains, writing and recording “I Only Speak in Friction” helped to revitalize the band and restore their focus.

“As a band, we grow anxious—often depressed to some degree—during our downtime,” says Perine. “Having these two days to get in the studio ahead of working on the next album released a lot of that tension. It became a more productive two days than we expected, as we were only planning on recording one song. I think we are reaching a higher level of focus together as we go into this next album.”

Plague Vendor has a handful of upcoming shows, including festival appearances at Ohana Fest and Aftershock.

Known for their exhilarating live performance, Plague Vendor got their start in a practice space in Whittier, California, in 2009. After making their name by playing endless shows around Southern California, the band quickly went from gigging at backyard parties to filling festivals with their formidable post-punk.

In 2014 Plague Vendor made their full-length debut with Free To Eat—a darkly thrashing collection of songs clocking in under 20 minutes. Followed by BLOODSWEAT, arriving in early 2016, earned widespread critical praise, with SPIN hailing the album as a “nerve-wracking, full-band blast... explodes from its first second.”
