Joe Strummer will host a new a new program on MTV2, which launches with a short Monday (Nov. 11) at 10 p.m. ET. Titled "Joe Strummer's Global Boom-Box," the show will serve as the visual equivalent to the radio program he's hosted in recent years for BBC Radio. "Global" will likely expand on the worldly sounds Strummer has been embracing since his days with the Clash, through to his most recent studio set, "Global a Go-Go," with his band the Mescaleros.

Strummer has a series of dates with the Mescaleros on tap this month on his Bringing It All Back Home tour of the U.K. On Sunday, he will also participate in a benefit show for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund at London's Royal Opera House, appearing alongside Bryan Adams, Queen's Brian May, and "Monty Python" actor Michael Palin. Strummer also makes another London charity appearance Nov. 15 at a Benefit for the Acton Redwatch Charity Fund (Fire Brigades Union) at the Acton Town Hall.

In preparation for a new studio album, penciled in for release next year by Hellcat, Strummer has been working new tracks such as "Get Down Moses" and "Guitar Slinger Man" into his live set. Describing the songs on his official Web site, the former Clash mouthpiece says bluntly, "I don't want to make up any bullsh*t, but we've got a lot of music at the moment." The artist told Billboard.com in April that the Mescaleros had already generated 20 ideas for the next album.

Strummer has also addressed criticism from fans for the recent use of the 1980 Clash staple "London Calling" in a U.S. advertisement for Jaguar cars. "We get hundreds of requests for that and turn 'em all down," he says. "But I just thought Jaguar... yeah. If you're in a group and you make it together, then everyone deserves something. Especially 20-odd years after the fact. It just seems churlish for a writer to refuse to have their music used on an advert and so I figured out, only advertise the things you think are cool. That's why we dissed Coors and Miller [beer]. We've turned down loads of money -- millions over the years. But sometimes you have to earn a bit, so everybody gets some."
