HorrorPops sell out Troubadour. Show preview from LA Weekly.
HorrorPops at the Troubadour.
Earlier this year, the INS gave the HorrorPops such a hard time over visa issues, the Danish psychobilly combo had to cancel most of a planned U.S. tour. Undeterred, the 'Pops kept coming back, and now we can't get rid of 'em --- the band love it here so much, they recently decided to relocate to the States, and tonight's their first show with new guitarist Geoff Kresge. These great Danes are still fronted by Patricia Day, a statuesque amazon whose powerful, majestically assured vocals come off more like Siouxsie Sioux than generic hiccupping rockabilly revivalists, especially on the darker tracks like "Julia" and "Emotional Abuse" from their debut CD, Hell Yeah (Epitaph). Guitarist Kim Nekroman gives a menacing punk edge to the poppier, ska-based tunes ("Girl in a Cage"), while the band's winsome go-go dancers add to the onstage mayhem with their nonstop lollipop-sucking, skirt-flashing antics.
