Dropkick Murphys don GM hat for Boston Red Sox!

It turns out that the Dropkick Murphys weren't content with simply delivering good karma to the Red Sox [stats, schedule] by resurrecting ``Tessie,'' the song credited with helping the hometown squad win the first World Series in 1903.

Boston's favorite Celtic-punk band also tried to deliver All-Star pitcher Tim Hudson, who will face the Sox tonight at Fenway Park as a member of the Atlanta Braves [stats, schedule].

When the band learned in December that Oakland Athletics [stats, schedule] general manager Billy Beane was looking to trade the veteran right-hander due to payroll concerns, bass player Ken Casey placed a call to California. Knowing that Beane and his daughter, Casey, were enormous fans of his band, the Milton native made a lighthearted proposal to convince the GM to trade Hudson to Boston.

``Ken is a passionate Red Sox fan and he called me and said, `If you trade him, trade him to the Sox,' '' Beane said on Wednesday in Oakland. ``He said, `If you do, we'll fly out there and play Casey's birthday (party) at the house.' Casey was in the room and she was yelling, `Dad, do it! Dad, do it!' Let's just say it wasn't a fit.''

Hudson was traded to the Braves on Dec. 16 for outfielder Charlie Thomas and pitchers Juan Cruz and Dan Meyer.
